I got up at 0900. There was a lot to do today but all of it was relatively boring. After the rest of the bacon and eggs I set about my chores.

First I took the skis to the post office having wrapped them. It was closed. That was strange. Indeed the whole town seemed quiet. I asked someone what was up. It was the first of May. That was a nuisance. Luckily the post office was part of a kiosk and it would open later in the evening at 1700.

I went back to the youth hostel and paid the bill for the hostel and the bicycle hire. As usual in Finmark prices were not cheap but this was better value for money that usual.

After lunch I set about writing emails and by 1700 must have sent about 30 of them plus a few phone calls which were pressing. I also had to organize accommodation and an address to send things in Kirkenes.

At 1700 I returned to the post office with the skis and other equipment. After checking the weather forecast I decided to post the tent and spade also as there was nothing too unpleasant in the forecast for the next week. I had another larger tent for the kayaking trip.

When I returned to the youth hostel there were more guests. They were Finnish over to ice fish. True to form they had had a belly full of vodka. It seemed to be a national trait and it was not endearing.

I repacked my very light rucksack in the evening ready for the bicycle trip tomorrow to either Bekkarfjord or Idfjord. The former would certainly be more pleasant at the Jenssen family, but it would mean a longer second cycling day to Rustefjell or even Tana bru. I am still worried about the seat and how I will fit on it. Perhaps the sleeping mat will be used for padding.

It was another dull day. I was ready to leave.
